Kiska-o,
Your parents are heartbroken that they didn't find you on this trip. It was a nightmare from the moment they stepped foot in the Ukraine, and it will continue to haunt them upon their return to the US. We can't always see why things happen or turn out the way they do until we get down the road from them a bit, but I am still convinced you are out there waiting to be found. This search for you has affected so many lives. None of us will ever be the same, especially your parents. It's a hard thing not to have a child. I know. Many people know. But not everyone tries as hard as your parents have tried for you.
There is a line in the play/movie of Fiddler on the Roof when the Jews are being expelled from their beloved town of Anatevka. They say to their rabbi..."Rabbi...we've waited all our lives for the messiah to come. Wouldn't now be a good time?" And the rabbi says, "We'll just have to wait for him someplace else." That's they way it is here. Your parents will have to look for you someplace else. I hope and pray that they have the strength to do that.
You need to stay strong Kiska-o. You will be found someday. Maybe your name is really Sally..or Luigi...or Pierre...but you're out there. And someday your parents will find you. Stay strong. Keep believing. And whenever you are found, I will decorate your room for you any way you want.
Love, Auntie JJ
