Welcome Home!

Kisko,

I will keep calling you Kisko until 2/2/09. I’m just superstitious and I’ve rubbed so many good luck charms during the process of finding you and bringing you home that I just have to see it through until the end.
I picked you up at the airport today. I was so very honored to be the first person in California to meet you! Not only that…I held you…which I don’t usually do with babies that are only NINE days old. But you are special…so I went outside of my comfort zone and it was wonderful. A total stranger saw you and wanted to know how old you were. Of course she probably thought I was your grandma instead of your favorite honorary aunt… but you weren’t in California more than 10 minutes when you were already causing a stir!
I had to yell a several drivers on the way home! They just were not respectful of the precious cargo I had on board! You know when I was born I only had to go about a mile to get to my house. You have already traveled half way across the country. Going to Italy will be a snap!
I also got to feed you your first meal in California! It’s only fitting…since I have had a much closer relationship with food over the years than your parents. But (hopefully) I have that under control now!
It was such a pleasure to see you meet your grandparents for the first time. They too have waited for you for so long! And as I watched your father hold your hands as you tried to fall asleep I told him that this was the father/son therapy that he has been looking for for so long. I know what you mean to your mom…but to see what you mean to your dad was really great. Just by being, you are the answer to so many prayers. Don’t let that pressure you. Just know that you are a miracle. Someday you will hope for a miracle and when I tell you to believe…it will happen… believe me. Sometimes it’s not an easy process but it can happen. And you have the perfect parents to teach you that. Welcome home!
Love,
Auntie J
